Mother’s Day is this coming and if you’re anything like me, it snuck up on you… fast. You still have time for a gift, or to book somewhere for lunch, but what about those other little things to make her day?

(Mums, if you're reading this, send this to your partner! *wink*).

Don’t worry. We’ve got you covered. Whether you’ve left it to the last minute, are working on a budget, or you're just stuck for ideas, you’re in the right place.

Above all, that mum in your life wants to feel special and appreciated. So, here are five easy ways to make sure the mum in your life (whoever you’re celebrating!) feels loved on her special day.

Give that woman a sleep-in!

It can be exhausting having to rush every morning to do something. To get the family up and ready for their childcare and school day, organise breakfast, get them to their sports, training, swimming, or dance classes - the list goes on! When does Mum truly get the morning to herself? Give her this morning.

If the mum you're celebrating is an early riser anyway, give her the option for a sleep-in. If her first instinct is to jump out of bed early, maybe she might like a walk while you prepare breakfast for the family. You could march her back to bed. You've got this!

If you are making plans to call your mum, wait until at least 10 am, nobody wants to be the alarm clock for their mum on their day of days!

TIP: If you’re making her breakfast in bed, do not disturb her to ask where the spatula is.

Breakfast is served.

Making Mum breakfast in bed is a great way to show your appreciation for all the hard work she does, as well as helping her relax. It’s a great way to pamper her. There are heaps of recipes out there that are kid-friendly, and it would be great to get the kids involved and role model the perfect way to make mum feel special.

The key to a beautiful breakfast in bed would be her preferred savoury or sweet breakfast, her favourite drink in the morning, and maybe even a hand-picked flower from the garden.

TIP: Make sure the mess in the kitchen is cleaned up before she gets out of bed.

Speaking of flowers…

Do you know what her favourite flower is? If you do, check local florists to see if they have some in stock within your budget. They may be able to do you a specialty bunch, depending on the florist. It never hurts to ask!

The official Mother's Day flower is the chrysanthemum, your local florist is all but guaranteed to have some ready for Mother's Day.

If that's not an option, you could always try to get some in her favourite colour instead. Ask the kids what colour they think mum loves, or get their thoughts on picking. That way, you can tell Mum exactly who picked them.

If you’re really strapped, supermarket flowers have upped their game in the last few years… just remember to take the price off.

TIP: Make sure you put them in the vase and do all the preparation for her. She’ll appreciate the extra effort!

Handmade cards!

Don’t buy her the first card you see on the shelf, encourage the kids to make her one the night before - or while you’re cleaning up the dishes from breakfast.

So long as the kids have blank paper and some pencils, you can instruct them to draw a picture of Mum, draw her favourite things, or something that makes her happy.

Then help the kids write a heartfelt message on the inside. She’ll love it!

TIP: A beautiful poem is just a quick Google away.

Time for herself!

Sometimes all Mum wants on her one dedicated day of the year is a little peace and quiet, and some time alone to pamper herself.

If the mum in your life already has a bath bomb, Epsom salts, and some candles, all she needs from you is to take the kids out of the house for a couple of hours. Easy! If she doesn’t have these things, they're another gift idea that won’t bust the budget.

Giving her time for herself might mean she can sit on the couch for an hour and watch a show with no interruptions. It might mean you take the kids for an hour so she can get her nails done. Anything that will give her time to spoil and appreciate herself as well.

TIP: If you are leaving the house with the kids, give her a timeframe and stick to it. No coming home early unless absolutely necessary!

With these five easy ways to celebrate Mother’s Day, we hope that every mum or mother figure in your life feels celebrated and appreciated on this very special day.

Happy Mother's Day!
