Welcome to Professor Lynn Corcoran Early Learning Centre: Froebel Parkville

The Professor Lynn Corcoran Early Learning Centre: Froebel Parkville is a not-for-profit early learning centre with an integrated funded Kindergarten Program, located in the heart of the biomedical precinct in Parkville, next to the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research, just a few minutes' walk from the nearly finished Parkville Train Station. Our centre caters for 100 children aged 3 months to 5 years of age and stretches over 5 levels which have been architecturally designed.

Our educational program focusses on:

  • inquiry-based learning with our Little Scientists program. This program will ignite your child's natural curiosity and encourage them to explore the world surrounding them. Part of our STEM learning program is implemented during excursions for all our age-groups to the local surrounds and beyond – we are so lucky to have beautiful parks and markets nearby.
  • immersive language learning program with German as a second community language. Being exposed to more languages will be a boost to your child's cognitive development. A number of our educators are German speakers and speak in German to all children throughout the day. We also celebrate traditions from German-speaking countries such as our annual lantern walk, alongside Australian events and traditions from our diverse community.
  • holistic approach to sustainability that extends across environmental, community, and personal domains. We believe that nurturing environmentally conscious practices, fostering a strong sense of community, and supporting individual well-being are all interconnected and essential for long-term impact. Through daily routines, intentional teaching, and meaningful projects, children are empowered to care for their environment, contribute to their communities, and develop lifelong skills to support their own health and wellbeing.

About the Curriculum

About the Curriculum

At Froebel Parkville, we implement an inquiry-based curriculum that empowers children to explore, investigate, and learn through their natural curiosity and interests. Our educators and teachers play a vital role in guiding this process by thoughtfully scaffolding learning experiences to extend children’s thinking and development.

We place a strong emphasis on individualised learning. Each child has their own Individual Learning Plan (ILP), which reflects their strengths, interests, and learning goals. These ILPs are used to inform the room’s program and ensure that every child’s learning journey is meaningful and tailored to their unique needs.

Our curriculum is a collaborative effort. Children, families, and educators all contribute to shaping the learning environment by sharing their thoughts, ideas, and cultural perspectives. This inclusive approach helps us create a dynamic, respectful, and engaging curriculum that supports children to thrive as confident, capable, and curious learners.
