Curriculum and programs
Curriculum and programs
The educators at Goodstart Early Learning follow an evidence-based curriculum that aligns with the Early Years Learning Framework. Informed by world-leading research, practices and techniques, the curriculum encourages the children’s natural curiosity and engages them in their learning journey.
As the children move through the different rooms in the centre, the curriculum evolves with them. The educators set goals for the children and celebrate as they reach their milestones. At every stage, the educators are tailoring the curriculum and goals to each child’s individual needs.
The curriculum involves different types of learning experiences and styles. From child-led learning to sessions guided by educators, the children participate in small and large group sessions as well as individual play. Most importantly, the children learn through play, developing social skills, confidence and independence in addition to more formal academic skills.
Play is the order of the day of Goodstart Early Learning and the programs at the centre are grounded in a play-based approach. The educators embed teaching and learning into play experiences, helping the children to make sense of the world around them. This is how the children learn about how things work and develop important foundational relationships and skills.
The primarily child-directed, play-based curriculum ensures that the children are engaged in their learning. They are encouraged to take the lead, developing their negotiation, risk taking, problem solving and social skills. The educators observe the children and help to challenge them by extending their learning and interests.
The educators recognise that every child is unique and that they bring their own needs, interests and strengths with them each day. The program is designed to be flexible to cater to these differing needs, ensuring every child has the opportunity to thrive at Goodstart.
Parent communication and involvement
Parent communication and involvement
Goodstart Early Learning uses the StoryPark app to connect with parents throughout the day. The educators upload photos and stories to the secure app, which parents can access anytime and anywhere to track their child’s progress.
The approach at the centre is very much based around partnership between families and educators. The educators work with the parents and carers to build strong relationships. They develop trust so the children can feel safe and secure while at the centre. Parents are also encouraged to share their insights and feedback with educators to add depth to the relationship.
The educators observe the children every day and tailor the program around their observations. They share these with parents, so they can feel connected to their child’s progress and also provide feedback that will further enhance their child’s learning experience.
Meet the team
Meet the team
Goodstart Early Learning employs qualified and skilled educators who are dedicated to making a difference to the children in their care. The centre employs people who are empathetic and compassionate, with a nurturing disposition and a passion for care. Working collaboratively as a team, the educators display qualities such as positivity, kindness and, most importantly, a desire to help every child thrive.
The educators hold relevant qualifications, including the Kindergarten and Preschool Program teachers who are university qualified. The educators are lifelong learners, participating in regular and ongoing professional development to enhance their skills. They are encouraged to upskill, learning about the latest research and thinking in the sector. They can then bring this knowledge back to the centre to share with their colleagues for the benefit of the children.
Catherine Schultz
Hello everyone, my name is Catherine, and I am the Centre Director at Goodstart Nuriootpa.
My amazing husband, our 2 beautiful young adult daughters and I have recently relocated to Nuriootpa upon return to our hometown of Adelaide. Our adult son decided to remain in our previous coastal hometown of Portland, VIC. Portland is a small regional town, much like Nuriootpa and I learned so much about being a part of a close knit community while living there the past 11 years.
I have worked in the early education and care profession in between having children and holding other positions since 1995. I gained my Certificate 3 in Children’s Services in 2009 and then my Diploma in Children’s Services in 2011. I have been fortunate to have worked in many roles over the years and have extensive experience being a part of various services leadership teams.
Learning and growing professionally is of the utmost importance to me. I believe that through exposing ourselves to education and experiences we take responsibility for our professional growth. We can then better learn to support all our team, families and of course children, while striving for continuous improvement and service excellence.
It is my belief that children, require a safe environment that will allow them to be the best version of themselves. Children will grow in confidence when we work as a team with them, their families, educators, and agencies, to provide individualised and group play based opportunities.
Building relationships with the educators, children, families, and citizens of the Nuriootpa community will be my focus as Centre Director.
I am extremely excited to continue my early education and care journey here at Goodstart Nuriootpa and look forward to meeting each of you.

We moved up here in 2023 I only had 2 kids at the time (boys) and I just like to say how much they have grown and learnt so much over the one year from their educators especially with my eldest who can do his timetables, additions. late last year I had my daughter, I was very hesitant getting her in at 6 months old as she was so young but it was the best decision I made as all my kids have made great relationships with their teachers! Thank you for looking after my babies and teaching them all new things every single day, also love seeing photos of what they get up to! My two elder kids will always ask me every morning “is it child care day?” Even on the weekend 😂 that’s how much they love going! You all have gone above and beyond for my family! ❤️ Read more
Thank you for your 5-star review Elly! We’re absolutely thrilled to hear such wonderful feedback about your family’s experience at our centre. It’s incredibly rewarding to know that your children have grown and developed so much in their time with us. We understand how daunting it can be to place a baby in care, so we’re so glad you made the decision to bring your daughter to us. It’s fantastic that all three of your children have formed such strong bonds with their educators. We love hearing that your children are so excited to come to our centre. It’s a testament to the warm and nurturing environment we strive to create. Thank you for your kind words and continued support. We’re honoured to be a part of your family’s journey.

From our first tour to our son’s first days at daycare, the team at Goodstart in Nuriootpa has been amazing. They’ve gone above and beyond for our family, and nothing has ever been too much trouble for them. I love getting daily photo updates about what our little guy has been up to. As a first-time mum, leaving him was never going to be easy, but the staff made the transition much smoother than I expected. Within just a couple of weeks, I noticed a positive change in him—he came home with a newfound sense of confidence. He’s built great relationships with the carers, and it’s made drop-offs so much easier. We’re so grateful for everything they do! Read more
