This is a very late post but 7-8 years ago when my little one attended this care centre he was attacked viciously, allegedly by another child, with multiple bite marks on his body, bruises and significant bumps to his head. He was just two at the time and a very lovely little boy. Apparently they found him lying on the ground crying with a shovel next to him (he had clearly been hit with). Staff did not contact me at work to report that he had been attacked until hours later when the only decent carer at the centre arrived at work and was really upset by his injuries. His injuries included a bite mark to the face and a large bump and bruise across his forehead. There were scratch marks also. Head injuries require immediate notification to a parent and incident reporting, this is regulated. This should have been reported to higher authorities and camera recordings accessed to assess staff negligence (how could an attack such as this have occurred, was the perpetrating child safe to have in the environment and did they need assessment with other services such as an OT, where was the line of sight supervision etc.) and provide evidence as to why it wasn’t safe to have a mixed age group area with children as big as 5 in the same play space as 1-2 years olds. Hectic. Nothing sufficient was done to prevent or report and respond to this and it has stayed with me ever since. Nothing like that has ever happened to him or his brother again. He screamed and begged hysterically when we next went near the centre, in a way that was completely out of character for him, so he never went back. Clearly it was not a safe environment. I am writing this now because I should have made a complaint to regulators then and because the centre directors and staff need to ensure their services have changed significantly and this kind of thing can not happen again.
