About the curriculum
About the curriculum
At Ballarat North Early Learning Centre, children are at the heart of everything they do. The Educators believe that all children are unique and learn at different paces, and that their individual talents, interests, capabilities, and knowledge contribute to who they are.
Children are curious and competent learners, and through the centre’s play-based curriculum, children have experiences and adventures that shape their growth and development.
The team provides educational opportunities that scaffold and nurture the children’s enquiring minds, increase self-confidence, and foster creativity and independence, whilst promoting a sense of ownership and belonging.
The children are cared for in the following groups:
- Nursery
- Tiny Tots
- Toddlers
- Jnr Kinder
- Pre-Kinder
- Kindergarten

The Educators nurture trusting and secure attachments, to provide safety and care for children. They are engaged and actively involved, are respectful and inclusive, and they value all cultures.
Educators work in partnership with families to develop an understanding of each individual child and plan for their future success. The Educators develop strong collaborative relationships with families that are based on open communication to ensure positive outcomes for children.
I believe when we have strong partnerships with families and carers we can achieve amazing things! As an educational leader I aim to build the capacity of teams to ensure the children at Ballarat North ELC have access to current and contemporary programmes that are inclusive and delivered by warm responsive Educators that are genuine in their passion for early childhood!

Health & nutrition
Health & nutrition
The children enjoy a wide variety of seasonal and local produce, with a menu that provides more than half of their daily nutrition requirements. The chef-designed meals also include many vegetables and herbs from the centre’s own vegetable gardens, as well as eggs from their own chickens. The centre works in consultation with families to accommodate any child’s allergies, intolerances, their cultural background or other family preferences.
Mealtimes provide an important opportunity for children to develop good eating habits and learn about nutrition and food variety. They are also an important time for social interaction with other children and adults.
The Educators adopt meal time strategies to teach children about good nutrition. These include things like involving children in creating the menu, encouraging younger children and toddlers to talk about healthy food choices, providing children with opportunities to eat food and engage in the mealtime routines of different cultures, talking with children about nutritious food during mealtimes.

She has fond memories and really learnt a lot in the 2 years she was here. She made a good friend. She never came home dirty or unhappy. This place always smelled so good I always joked how I would stay for lunch. My daughter has anxiety and she would always cry when I'd leave. They settled her within 3 minutes ( I always waited).
