Programs
Programs
The program at HazelGrove is socially focussed to build partnerships and connections between parents, community groups and local support services.
Of particular interest is the transition to school program. This is designed with school readiness activities that are embedded and woven throughout the curriculum. This approach progressively builds the skills the children need and reinforces a positive and healthy attitude towards the transition to school.
About the curriculum
About the curriculum
The curriculum at HazelGrove is completely bespoke. The children progress from the early years through a play-based program that gradually combines with a structured tutoring program in the preschool years.
0 - 2 years old
This is an age where the foundations of learning are established. The educators at HazelGrove help to build these foundations by providing a safe, controlled environment for the children to discover and grow. They are nurtured to explore the world around them and encouraged to learn through play.
With strong foundations, the children in this age group are offered more opportunities for play-based learning. They can observe and engage with the world around them and the educators will encourage their natural curiosity and interests.
While play-based learning is still a significant element for the preschool children, this is combined with structured academic tutoring in a school-like environment. The tutoring classes are offered at strategic times throughout the day to maximise the learning opportunity. This gives the children the best of both worlds - the academic benefits of a preschool with the nurture and care of a childcare centre.
Health & nutrition
Health & nutrition
The children at HazelGrove Early Education Centre receive fresh, nutritious and wholesome meals prepared daily by the on site chef. The rotating menu is updated regularly to ensure a well-tailored, balanced and diverse diet.
For breakfast, the children enjoy a selection of cereals. Morning tea usually includes a combination of either fruit, wholegrain crackers with cheese or yoghurt. A hot meal is served at lunch with a vegetarian option also available. In the afternoon, the children may eat vegetable sticks, hommus or savoury muffins for afternoon tea followed by wholewheat crackers with assorted spreads for a late snack. All meals are served with milk or water.
Whatever the needs of each child, the menu can be tailored to suit. This includes dietary requirements, allergies or transitioning to solids.

Morning
William is 13-months-old and has recently joined his big brother at HazelGrove. In the morning he enjoys a breakfast of Weet-bix before heading to the outdoor play space for a sensory activity his educator has organised.
Lunch
After lunch, William sits with his educator as she reads some books. He loves to pretend he is reading and excitedly points at the pictures and babbles as he “tells” the story.
Afternoon
The afternoon involves a craft activity for William. The educators have arranged for the children to do finger painting. When his dad picks him up in the afternoon, William proudly shows him his work of art.
Morning
Amelia is a busy 2.5-year old. Her current interest is playing with dolls so as soon as she arrives at HazelGrove in the morning, this is where she heads.
Lunch
After lunch it is group time. Today the children are doing show and tell and each child has the opportunity to share some news. Amelia shares the news that her family got a new puppy.
Afternoon
In the afternoon, Amelia and her friends play in the outdoor area. They find a colony of ants and, after encouragement from their educator, they pretend they are ants carrying crumbs from a picnic.
Morning
Sophia is in her final year of preschool. In the morning, the educators prepared an academic lesson, which she actively participates in. Sophia’s independence is growing and she is very keen to learn more as she gets ready to transition to school.
Lunch
Today is lunchbox day at HazelGrove for the preschoolers. Sophia takes her lunchbox out of her bag and happily sits with her friends. She does need some help from her educator to open one of the containers but she is very proud of herself for eating her lunch by herself.
Afternoon
In the afternoon, Sophia and the preschoolers have some quiet time where they can choose an activity. Sophia chooses to draw and is joined by two of her friends. Today they try to draw a picture of themselves. The educator tells them that this is called a self portrait.

As a first time Mum, I have appreciated the honesty and care from the educators. I have certainly been anxious being away from my little one, but all the staff in the Bunnies Room have been reassuring and kind. The atmosphere in the service is always calm and friendly, you'd never know that the centre is 90 place as children are happy and engaged. As a teacher myself, I know that this is all possible due to great service providers and an amazing leadership and management team. Read more

🤎 Mud Play in the Early Years 🤎 🌳 At HazelGrove, our infants and toddlers are on a mud play journey to explore and discover through the natural world around them! 🧐 There is a growing body of research into why children have an inbuilt need to play in mud, all these researches pursued us as educators/teachers to reflect and implement a more holistic outdoor learning environment for young children. 🤗 We believe mud play is a great way to connect with nature while implementing our Sustainability Plan. Playing with mud is also a joyous experience and one that the majority of children cannot resist. 🪵 Despite this, the fact remains that nature play inspires learning and socialising. Outdoor exploration and immersion in nature are essential to the health and wellbeing of children, helping them to develop to their full potential in all learning areas. 📖 While HazelGrove is dedicated to nurturing and supporting children’s learning, we have a responsibility to help our community understand the benefits of our educational curriculum too. To do so, we always showcase and share research with our families for ongoing collaboration across stakeholders which we love to see here at HazelGrove! 🤎 #CAREFORKIDS

🚮 Know Your Waste 🚮 ✅ In partnership with the Hills Shire Council and Cleanaway, our children were presented with a recent workshop on ‘Know Your Waste’. ♻️The Know Your Waste Preschool Education Program is designed to improve children’s knowledge of waste and sustainability issues. 🌍 It develops a sense of environmental stewardship and fosters transferable behaviours that help make a sustainable future possible! 🪱 Our children thoroughly enjoyed this workshop and had fun getting involved with worm farming, sorting rubbish, and discussing current environmental challenges. #careforkids
