Paige built some fabulous relationships with both the educators and her peers in the NIDO room. The relationships with the educators was built on trust, warmth and communication. During her time in NIDO she developed increased confidence, independence and communication skills and learnt more social skills.

About the curriculum
About the curriculum
Nido (Italian for ‘nest’) is the centre’s warm, inviting, safe, cosy and loving nursery area. This carefully prepared home-like environment is especially designed for the changing development needs of infants from 8 weeks of age to walking. The floors are heated and the room has designated areas for awake time, sleeping, eating and physical care (toileting) routines. The room gives babies a sense of order and orientation, allowing them to securely explore the environment.
In this space, the young children move from a physical/emotional stage of development to the more cognitive phase of learning. Through movement and exploration, the child is exposed to a broader world where parallel play becomes interactive play, where words become tools to communicate needs and desires, and where the boundaries of possibility expand alongside the developing mind.
Parents will be able to plan their child’s individual routines with educators in the morning to ensure each child’s natural biological rhythm is supported and discuss any changes of routines as their children further develop. Parents and educators work together very closely during this time to ensure consistency between home and school, and to be sensitive to any developmental changes.
The Nido classroom accommodates 12 children, with three qualified educators working in the room at all times.
The toddler community offers space for the young child to naturally move from a physical/emotional stage of development to the more cognitive phase of learning. Through movement and exploration, the child is exposed to a broader world where parallel play becomes interactive play and where words become tools to communicate needs and desires.
The classrooms provide activities that engage the child to care of oneself and the environment, foster further refinement of gross and fine motor skills and provide structure and organisation for pre-academic learning.
Food preparation and practical life activities are at the heart of the program. Preparing the snack for morning tea and baking creates opportunities for the children to learn about hygiene practice, develop their fine motor skills and concentration, learn new vocabulary and absorb mathematical concepts.
The toddler community has 14 children with three educators working in the room.
The 3-6 year old environment is called a Casa dei Bambini, or House of Children. It provides the opportunity for the children under the guidance of the directress to choose from a wide variety of graded materials which they can work through adding in complexity as their abilities increase. The environment incorporates outdoor and indoor space. The two spaces complement each other and are available at all times.
Daily activities stem from adult’s close observations of individual needs rather than a prepared curriculum. Development at this stage occurs in six main areas: movement, language, refinement of the senses, order, acquisition of the social customs and behavior of the child's culture and society, and mathematics.
Children approaching the age of six work in a smaller group enabling them to focus on extension activities preparing them for primary school.
There is a permanent Lead Directress/Director and Assistant Directress/Director for each classroom and a dedicated outdoor educator. They are further assisted by floating staff members between the two classrooms.

We've been with Headland since it first opened in Grange Road in 2021 and moved into Alma Road when the kids got bigger in 2022. Educators and management at both locations are have outstanding early education skills and experience. They are equipped with the mindset for children's growth and always putting the child at the centre of growth and development. I get calls when the kids didn't behave well and understand the circumstances when it happens as they explain and discuss options moving forward. Alma Road location is well secured with the premises of the synagogue and is close to main road and public transport. Read more

During our 3-year journey at Headland, the impact on our child's development and readiness for school in 2024 has been exceptional. The Montessori principles embraced by Jackie's dedicated team have significantly influenced our child's growth. Despite the challenges, including COVID-19, the management's leadership and communication have been outstanding. Jackie's pivotal role as Director has been remarkable, and educators like Faith, Nav, Angela, Maryam, Mina, Elenour, and Brendan have all played vital roles in Frankie's development. The diverse community at Headland has been a wonderful asset. We're immensely grateful for providing Frankie with an exceptional learning environment. This experience has been invaluable, and we highly recommend Headland Montessori to parents seeking this outstanding method for their child. Our gratitude is boundless. Thank you to Yan, Jackie, and the entire team. We'll miss you all when Frankie begins primary school next year. Read more

My child was in the Nido room and I would like to thank all the educators there (Aby, Vesna, Chole and Amy). At baby stage there is not much of the Montessori education that can be provided. So I would like to rather talk about the excellent behaviour demonstrated towards the baby and role model, provided to my child. My baby certainly boosted her confidence and communication skills while in the care at the Nido room. The educators were willing to follow baby’s routine and kept us informed in real-time through their Xplor app. I can vouch for the Nido Team because due to our house move, we had to change the childcare. And now, I could see the comparison with other childcare centres. Certainly the cost per day is very high at the Hedland Montessori, for me it’s because of the excellent educators. Thank you again!
