Meet the team
Hello, I'm Rebecca, Centre Director and Educational Leader at St Brigid's Preschool and Long Day Care Centre in Coogee.
With over ten years’ experience in early childhood education my main focus is to create an environment which is fun, secure, motivating and where children and staff can achieve their full potential. A place where meaningful relationships and friendship can blossom.
These stages of a child’s life are so important so it is all right to treat it that way. I warmly invite you to join the St. Brigid’s Preschool & Long Day Care community. We look forward to partnering with you to support and guide your child on their early education journey.
At St Brigid's Preschool & Long Day Care, we believe every child is unique, and we strive to create learning environments where children are free to discover their natural talents and interests, form strong relationships, and express their true selves. We uphold the idea that play is the most effective way children learn, and we regard the environment as the 'third teacher.'
Recognising that each child is on a distinct journey, our team of passionate and professional educators tailor educational experiences that encourage meaningful exploration and discovery. Our team is here to observe, support, and guide children every step of the way.
We deeply value the role of family's as a child's primary educator and strive to establish partnerships and open lines of communication to align our goals. Embracing the diverse cultural backgrounds of all our families, we warmly encourage their active involvement in our service. We continually seek feedback, ensuring our approach remains dynamic and responsive to the needs of our community.
I warmly invite you to join the St Brigid's Preschool & Long Day Care community. We look forward to partnering with you to support and guide your child on their early education journey.
Centre philosophy
Centre philosophy
At St Brigid's Preschool and Long Day Care Coogee, our approach to learning is inspired by the Reggio Emilia philosophy, viewing each child as an innately curious and capable learner.
Our learning environments, often referred to as the 'third teacher,' are carefully crafted to spark exploration and creativity while our educators act as facilitators and co-learners.
Driven by the children's own passions and interests, our approach celebrates the diverse ways that children learn and express themselves.
Learning is holistic, focused on children's complete development, integrating their physical, social, emotional, spiritual and intellectual growth.
We believe in collaborative project-based learning, integrating the insights of children, families, and educators to create an enriching and responsive educational journey that is tailored to each individual child.

Nursery Program
Our Coogee Nursery Program for children aged six weeks to two years focuses on providing young children with nurturing, responsive, and caring relationships that provide the essential foundations for learning and growth.
At the heart of our nursery program lies the belief that babies are competent, curious, and eager learners who thrive in learning environments that support movement, curiosity, and connection.
Learning activities in our Nursery Room are hands-on and encourage children to explore with all their senses. Through music and movement, storytime, open-ended play, group projects, sensory exploration, and games, our youngest learners gain an understanding of themselves, their world, and their place within in.
Each child's journey is unique, and our dedicated educators work in partnership with children and families, to achieve the best outcomes for every child.
Key Learning Areas Include:
Identity: We nurture children's identity by teaching them descriptive words, fostering independence, promoting resilience, building connections, and enhancing self-esteem and belonging.
Connection: Children learn about their connection and contribution by exploring diversity, culture, sustainability, community interactions, and the principles of fairness.
Wellbeing: We promote children's physical and emotional wellbeing through daily movement activities, learning about healthy eating, positive social interactions, bodily awareness, mindfulness, safe sleep practices, and the Munch and Move Program.
Learning: We provide enriching learning experiences through play, projects, and intentional teaching, fostering problem-solving, motor skills, sensory perception, pattern recognition, and an understanding of cause and effect.

Toddler Program
Our Coogee Toddler Program for children aged two to three is thoughtfully designed with a focus on interactive learning experiences that encourage exploration, hands-on learning, and self-expression.
Educators attentively listen to and observe the children, using their interests as a springboard for meaningful projects and activities.
Through group learning experiences, open-ended play, discovery and exploration, interest-based projects, art and craft, dramatic play, and responsive relationships, toddlers are empowered to communicate, connect, and discover the world around them, fostering a deep-rooted love for learning.

Since day one, our son was welcomed with such warmth and love. The outdoor area is one of the best out of the Coogee daycares we have visited. We are devastated to be leaving (because we moved house), and the thoughtfulness and kindness that the educators showed us in the final days made me well up with emotion. Thank you for everything! We will miss you all! Read more

I've been sending my daughter for this year as it's her final year of preschool. The educators are so caring and always make her feel nurtured - even at drop off and pick up times when she's feeling emotional. They have always made her feel valued and safe. The curriculum isn't super religious and more focused on general knowledge, learning how to write letters and learning the sounds amongst all the other topics you expect the kids to learn at this age. They have a fantastic chef named Brian, who makes the most amazing meals for the kids. Being a relatively new centre they are progressively finding their feet but all in all I think it's a great centre and the staff are absolutely awesome - and extremely hard working. I'd also like to add that if you're a parent looking for childcare, don't base your decision on a rogue review from bitter neighbours like old mate Duncan who either needs a hobby or to learn that if you choose to live next to a preschool, you should understand that there will be an array of sounds coming from a childcare centre; instead of ruining the reputation of a really great bunch of educators because you're feeling bothered and miserable. I can assure you as a parent that its a really good centre and the kids are very well looked after - I've never heard or experienced otherwise and have been satisfied with the standard of care and education provided.
