I had a disappointing experience during my placement at Strathfield Broughton Road Montessori Academy, especially in the preschool room. Unfortunately, the room leader, Mrs Shyamala, was unsupportive and unkind. While she was fine and good with me when I was assisting with basic tasks like cleaning and all , her attitude changed when I needed to rest sometimes due to my recent knee surgery. When I sat briefly due to pain, she criticised me instead of showing understanding. Also, I had discussed and planned an activity with her in advance, aligned with their curriculum, but she avoided giving me a suitable time and didn’t let me to do it. I asked multiple times, but she made excuses. In the end, she didn’t give me a fair grade either. Her teaching style is very traditional—focused mainly on reading and writing, with little regard for children’s interests or play-based learning. I don’t recommend this preschool room to students or teachers looking for a supportive and progressive environment to learn . That said, I’m thankful to the other educators who were friendly and gave me positive vibes, even though I didn’t work directly with them. Read more
