About the Curriculum
“Let the child be the scriptwriter, director and the actor in their own play” - Magda Gerber
Nursery Space: 6 weeks – 2 years
Learning starts from before birth, and our Educators have created a welcoming and nurturing nursery environment where each baby feels safe to explore and discover new things - through their senses, their communication and cues (body language, facial expression and sounds) and by experimenting. On any given day you can see the nursery children engaging in all types of play, water play, music time, story time and more. Every day provides a brand new, exciting adventure for our babies to support their development, learning and wellbeing!
Toddler Space: 2 - 3 years
Our teachers and educators encourage the children to learn through play to help enhance their sensory-motor development. This happens through carefully planned music, dance, games and reading experiences.
On any given day the Toddler children can be seen developing their numeracy by building a tower, sorting objects, pointing and identifying shapes and patterns and participating in counting songs and games.
Children in our toddler space are encouraged to participate in group play. Group play is important as it helps our toddlers develop important social skills such as, turn taking, developing self confidence and emotional self regulation. Our team helps children through talking, planning and role modelling.
Kindergarten Space: 3 – 6 years
Kindergarten is a unique time for learning with peers and developing skills for later learning including confidence and curiosity, important skills for starting school. Our play-based program encourages active engagement in learning and supports a range of positive developmental outcomes including resilience, independence, critical thinking and creativity.
The oral language supports literacy learning. A child’s oral language ability is the best predictor for later success in learning to read and write. Hearing the sounds within a language is the first critical step for all literacy learning. Our team supports our Kindergarten children's development by engaging in rich discussions, introducing new vocabulary as part of everyday conversations, as well as singing, playing games, and reading with the children daily.
Throughout the Kindergarten year, children use their language to share ideas, ask questions, express themselves, and connect with peers and adults in social settings.
Social-emotional skills, including the ability to self-regulate emotions, is supported through group learning environments. Our team supports each child’s social and emotional development by labelling and talking about emotions and supporting appropriate responses as together, they engage in new and challenging situations. Lastly, ensuring that all children are ready for the ‘big school’ by preparing them for all that ‘big school’ has to offer.
Morning
Ellie is 11 months old and enjoys sensory play outside in the sandpit with her friends. She sits near her educator who helps teach her how to scoop the sand into the bucket. Ellie is learning how to dig, carry, and move the sand. She is also exploring texture and learning what happens to the sand when she adds water!
Lunch
Ellie has finished her lunch and is preparing to take a nap. Her educator changes her nappy, prepares a bottle and reads Ellie a story before her afternoon sleep.
Afternoon
Ellie and some of her nursery friends enjoy some story time and songs outside in the shaded garden. They read ‘Peepo’ which is Ellie’s favourite book.
Morning
Josh is two and a half years old and loves to start his day at the centre outside on the climbing equipment. His friends join him, and together they pretend to be pirates on a ship looking for treasure. Through this exciting dramatic play, Josh is learning about himself and the world around him. Dramatic play is helping Josh identify his interests, abilities, likes and dislikes.
Lunch
Josh is watering the vegetables in the garden. By doing this, Josh is learning the importance of growing and caring for the veggies in the garden. Josh picks a tomato from the garden, which the Chef will use to help make Josh and his friend’s lunch - Spaghetti Bolognese!
Afternoon
Josh enjoys art, and today he is painting a beach scene from a recent family holiday. He adds the finishing touches and sets the painting aside to dry; so that he can take it home to share with his family.
While painting, Josh is learning how to express himself creatively and how to convey his ideas and emotions. Painting is also helping develop Josh’s hand eye coordination, finger, wrist and hand strength. Making marks on paper is important for self expression as well as later learning.
Morning
Charlotte is almost five years old and can’t wait for today’s carpentry experience - she loves building things! Carpentry experiences allow Charlotte and her friends to extend their learning through real-life experiences. While participating in carpentry, Charlotte is learning to problem solve, experiment and predict. She is also improving her hand eye coordination, manipulative skills and muscular strength.
Lunch
Before Charlotte sits down for lunch with her friends and educators, Charlotte takes part in the centre’s sports program. Charlotte loves sports. Sports helps Charlotte improve her flexibility and strength (perfect for growing bodies!). Sports also allows her to practice different skills in a fun and engaging way.
Afternoon
Charlotte is off to ‘big school’ next year and she can't wait to start! Charlotte and her friends will be visiting the local primary school next week. In preparation for the visit, the class is creating a list of questions to ask the Principal and school children.
Health and Nutrition
Health and Nutrition
Our centre chef prepares and cooks healthy and nutritious meals daily, catering to the unique dietary requirements of every child. We believe that by encouraging active participation (such as growing their own fruit and vegetables, preparing, and finally cooking!) children learn to appreciate and understand the importance of healthy eating.
Our centre offers children nutrient-rich, unprocessed, and seasonal whole foods – created to delight the fussiest eaters.

Hi my name is Mariana, and I am the Centre Manager here at Community Kids Broadbeach Waters. My early learning career started in 2007 and I have been working at Community Kids Broadbeach Waters ever since. I hold an Advance Diploma in Children's Services.
I love children and love to watch them grow. It is very rewarding to see their development each day and have a meaningful impact on their lives. I've learned that each child is unique and we should enable them to be individuals. I want our children to learn and grow at their own pace and naturally develop their talents and personalities. I believe in taking the time to learn more about each child and what they need to be successful. As educators, we communicate with families to understand the child's strengths, interests and limitations so we can make adjustments along the way. Here at Community Kids Broadbeach Waters, we make children feel loved, welcomed and valued so they can develop a sense of belonging and build their confidence.
In a dedicated early learning environment, children learn to socialise and communicate better. They learn to share their spaces, attention, and toys, growing more independently than at home. They develop their skills quickly as they watch other children and want to be part of a group.
My team is a very loving and caring team. We have excellent communication with families, team members, and children, making them feel welcome and comfortable at our centre. We are a very inclusive team, as we are all from different cultures and backgrounds.
We regularly communicate with our families and I am always here to support them. I am always interested to know how their day was and how their children are doing in their classroom. We are always open to suggestions and accept all feedback for continuous improvement.

Centre Reviews

I am writing to share what we consider in our opinion a serious safety concern that we experienced at this centre. During a tour to another centre, our 2-year-old daughter picked up a sharp metal nail/tack from a table in one of the older rooms. This was particularly concerning, as she often puts things in her mouth and small, sharp objects such as these pose a significant choking hazard. Before touring Community Kids Broadbeach Waters, my husband raised these concerns with the Centre Manager, Mariana, both over the phone and in person. She assured us that there were no nails or sharp objects in the 2.5 to 3.5-year-old room. However, when we arrived on our daughter’s first day at Community Kids Broadbeach Waters, we were dismayed to find children from the next door, older room at a table playing with a hammer and nail/tack set, with these small metal pieces scattered across the table. It only takes a few seconds for a smaller child to grab one of these and create a very serious issue! This situation not only contradicts Education and Care Services National Regulations but also basic common sense. The product labelling clearly states that it is only suitable for children aged 4 and older and warns of a serious small part choking hazard (see images of a similar set). In summary, we were shocked to discover this. Although the Manager apologised, we were very unimpressed with her excuses and seemingly relaxed attitude toward safety, especially given that we had clearly expressed our concerns directly to her beforehand. As a result we immediately pulled our daughter out of this centre before she even started because we had no confidence in her safety there. We hope this review serves as a warning to other concerned families considering this centre. Read more

The whole team are the hardest working educators I know. They pride themselves on being reflective, meaningful in their practice and responsive to parents. Mariana has been long standing within the service and her passion and dedication keeps the beauty of this educational setting alive. I know as a long standing parent, the educators regularly ensure the children are safe and supported. The service has two fully qualified teachers with exceeding planning, observations and communication throughout all rooms. They consider each individual child’s needs and abilities and alter the learning environment as required. They excel at promoting inclusive practices and embed multiculturalism daily. The teaching and learning times consist of music and movement, early years literacy and numeracy and a range of play-based activities. The outdoor environment is wonderful and natural with a calming feel for the children to explore and play. They have a wide range of resources that align with the child’s skills and needs on the days they attend. I am beyond impressed with the progress this educational settings continues to make, and I see weekly the team strengthen and build on their knowledge and skills. This is the heart of early childhood education and Community Kids Broadbeach Waters emcompasses that. I am very blessed to have the centre play such a prominent part in my child’s development and she has progressed so much because of them. Thank you to Mariana, Tash, Sana, Xueyan, Sherry, Amanda, Bernie, Alice and the whole team for being wonderful and being true to yourself and your children/community. Read more
