Creating Inspiring Learning Environments for Children's Growth and Exploration
We strongly believe that effective learning environments thrive on open communication and ongoing evaluation. This approach enables us to inform, educate, and foster understanding among all stakeholders involved in a child’s development. Through collaborative efforts, we can share ideas and resources with the common goal of meeting each child’s individual needs.
We value the importance of recognising and challenging children’s needs within the environment. We are dedicated to ensuring that as they progress through each stage of development, the complexity of their surroundings increases, providing ample opportunities for further growth and development.
Fostering Acceptance, Attachment, and Trust
At Gaven Early Learning Centre, we prioritise creating an environment where children feel a strong sense of belonging. We understand the importance of acceptance, nurturing attachments, and building trust with those who care for them. Our dedicated educators provide a warm and supportive atmosphere that allows children to feel secure, valued, and accepted for who they are.
Embracing Social and Cultural Awareness
We believe in empowering children to develop an awareness of their social and cultural heritage, as well as an understanding of gender and its significance in their world. Through inclusive practices, we celebrate diversity and encourage children to explore and appreciate different cultures, backgrounds, and perspectives. By fostering a sense of being, we promote a positive self-identity and encourage acceptance of others.
Shaping Identity via Experiences & Relationships
As children navigate through their evolving experiences and relationships, they embark on a journey of becoming. At Gaven Early Learning Centre, we recognise the importance of supporting children in building and shaping their identities. We embrace change and transitions as valuable opportunities for growth and self-discovery. Our nurturing environment fosters resilience, adaptability, and self-confidence, empowering children to embrace new experiences, overcome challenges, and develop into their unique selves.

Bush Kindy is an outdoor early learning program that celebrates the freedom and fun of nature play. It is all about taking the learning from the indoor environment into the outdoors. In Bush Kindy, children are actively engaged in learning while they explore and experience the world around them. Nature play is an extremely healthy activity for young children, as it encourages natural instincts like creativity, exploration, and physical activity. Bush Kindy strives to create a positive environment where children can feel safe being active outdoors with other friendly children in their neighbourhood.
Gaven ELC has partnered with Gaven State School to build relationships with the school and teachers. We will visit several times throughout the year to help the children learn what to expect for their transition to ‘Big School’. Visits include going to the library, visiting a Prep class and participating in the sports carnival are just to name a few.
Gaven ELC is a proud participant in the All Smiles Intergenerational Gap program run in association with the Studio Village Community centre.
Relationships between older and younger people can provide a sense of connection to the past and to the future. Strong relationships with older adults help children form a better sense of who they are, where they have come from and how they fit into this world.
At Gaven ELC, our environments are set up to enhance sustainability practices.
Our stage areas are surrounded by herb gardens to which the children look after and our perimeter gardens are the children’s growing area in which we are growing a variety of fruits and vegetables. The children measure the growth of the plants and keep a timeline of their growth.
Gaven ELC shows sustainability in the use of recycled products for creative art projects and composts their scraps through our onsite worm farm.
Gavel ELC is a proud member of the Tangalooma Eco Warriors.

As soon as you walk in, you are greeted at the door by the lovely Karen, And all the staff make you feel so welcome! You know your child is in the best hands. We have tried three day cares in the area and this centre is by far the best! If I could rate 10 stars I would! All the staff are kind and caring, There are wonderful New facilities, including water play outdoor on a hot day which our little Boy loves! If you have Bigger Kids, like we do, our Preppy can be taken safely from the centre to the school and back, they also do amazing vacation care activities For the school Kids. They have wonderfull healthy food-so I know our son is eating well! Great play areas, lots of space, and smiles all around! By far the Best in the maudsland/pacific pines/Oxenford/Gaven area! Gaven ELC is well-marketed and beautifully renovated but poorly resourced and poorly represented. An honest tagline might be: "A crying child is an inconvenience to ignore, silence, or shame. Parents will be lied to, and their requests ignored." If you want your child’s needs, health history, and wellbeing overlooked - or to have the same conversations daily without resolution - this is the place for you. Educators urgently need professional development in emotional regulation strategies, age-appropriate practices, and effective communication. The attitudes and values we experienced are decades out of touch. Several principles of the Early Years Learning Framework failed to be met for my children, particularly elements of Outcomes 1, 2 and 3. For children to feel safe, secure, supported, and have a strong sense of wellbeing, staff must first display empathy and respect themselves. Children deserve grace, love, and support; ours did not receive that here. We moved to Gaven ELC intending to stay for the next 8/9 years but left within three months, deeply disappointed. I highly recommend families keep all communication in writing for a record of contact. I have never left a negative review in my life, but families deserve this insight—we could have saved so much trouble. We’ve returned to a more caring centre further away and while they don’t offer outside school hours care, my children (2 & 4) are once again happy and thriving. Read more
