Welcome to Avenues Early Learning Centre - Murrarie
Avenues Murarrie is a 113 place centre located in a quiet, leafy neighbourhood, close to bus stops and a 10 minute walk from the Murarrie train station. Opening from 6am-6pm, 52 weeks of the year we provide care for children from 6 weeks up to school age.
Our spacious classrooms cater for small sizes of children that focus on individual care and 3 large shady playgrounds invite children to explore the natural world around them, complete with sandpits, dirt pits, gardens and more.
We place a strong emphasis on creating a warm, homely environment for our children and families and believe that a rich learning environment can only be achieved through links with both families and the wider community and encourage family involvement along with our park excursions for Kindergarten children.
Our caring educators have a wealth of experience and assist your children to grow and develop into confident individuals as they interact with friends and participate in our planned programs. Included in our team are bi-lingual Educators which share their home language with the children, this is an amazing opportunity for children to be exposed to languages at an early age.
Our educators work with a commitment to quality early childhood education, and together with our Early Childhood Teachers and Educational leader work collaboratively to create rich and meaningful educational experiences based on the Early Years Learning Framework and our centre philosophy, each day of your child’s attendance.

About the curriculum
About the curriculum
6 weeks - 15 months
The educators are aware of the opportunities in routine tasks for providing plentiful loving care, attention, language and gross motor development and cognitive stimulation. Nappy changing, bathing and eating provide special opportunities for games, talking, singing, stories, finger plays and rhymes. The babies program includes indoor and outdoor time with a variety of equipment and experiences specifically designed to stimulate the senses and promote physical development. The daily program for babies is flexible, catering to the needs of individual children.
15 months - 2 years
The educators recognise that children at this age have very individual needs. Routine is provided, as it is important to a child’s sense of predictability and trust, however the team does cater to the children’s needs as much as possible. Toddlers are active, inquisitive and most of their learning is done through play. The toddler program provides plentiful opportunities, both indoor and outdoor for the children to explore, create and experiment with a variety of objects.
Staff value play as a most powerful learning tool and enrich the children’s play by interacting with them, introducing new equipment and ideas. The program is designed to stimulate the senses, develop social skills, develop physical and cognitive abilities and to facilitate further learning by providing variety and new challenges. Activities in this age group may include the following: drawing, painting, playdough, puzzles, water play, sliding, riding, ball play, music, puppets, stories, finger plays, rhymes, singing, perfecting balance, home corner play, role-play, games, sand play, climbing, swinging, rest time, toileting, health and hygiene activities, learning to take turns, sharing, separating from families.
2 years - 3 years
Children at this stage of development are making huge leaps and bounds in their development. They are very active and enquiring and are really ready for an activity-based program with plenty to do. They are keen to begin socialising with other children and developing and expressing their independence. Self help skills, such as toileting, dressing themselves and caring for their belongings are rapidly developing. The educators assist and encourage the children with these, therefore increasing their confidence and capabilities. Role play and pretend play are encouraged through home corner, props and dress-ups. Small amounts of group time, including singing, finger-plays, stories and discussions help to gradually develop the children’s concentration, listening and language skills.
The arts, encompassing visual arts, music, and dance are a large part of the program. Children can express themselves creatively through free and structured movement, music, painting, drawing, collage, and sensory experiences. The children can also develop their problem solving and manipulative skills through playing with blocks and different table activities such as Mobilo, puzzles, threading, sorting and classifying. Outdoor time is programmed time, where the educators specifically program for individual children to develop their balance, muscles, coordination skills and body confidence through a wide variety of activities.
3 years - 4 years
Children at this age play happily by themselves and alongside other children. These first signs of social play usually begin during this time. Many opportunities are provided for role-play and pretending, such as playing houses or using telephones. Teachers facilitate this play by offering props and engaging in the play with the children. Motor skills are rapidly developing and children enjoy trying out their gross motor skills such as running, jumping, hopping and riding. Large blocks of time are allocated for outdoor activities providing the children plenty of opportunity to experiment with materials in order to practise their newly acquired and developing skills.
A large variety of materials, both natural and man-made are provided to the children in order that they explore, experiment and exercise their curiosity. Indoor activities are self-selected and programmed in a variety of grouping sizes, including individual, small group, large group and free choice activities. Children of this age enjoy a wide variety of materials and activities available to them. An example of activities may include: collage, construction, playdough, puzzles, threading, cutting, gluing, painting, block play, drawing, singing, simple dance games, sand and water play, gym equipment, ball skills and bike riding.
4 years - 5 years
Avenues Early Learning Centre Murarrie is a government recognised kindergarten provider. The kindergarten program is provided for children in the year prior to prep for 15 hours per week, 40 weeks per year. At Avenue’s Murarrie, the kindergarten program runs between the hours of 8:30am-4:00pm, Monday-Friday and is run by a fully qualified early childhood teacher.
The kindergarten program is aligned with the Queensland Kindergarten Learning Guidelines and principles of the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF). Kindergarten children are active and inquisitive learners. They are usually very talkative and imaginative, requiring “hands-on” involvement in activities.
Learning environments provide opportunities to extend children’s thinking and engage them with concepts that are important for their future learning success. Teachers respond sensitively to shifts in children’s physical, social, and emotional needs, and build continuity across the day providing a sense of predictability that supports children’s wellbeing. A typical day could include: routines such as meals and rest times, time for children to participate in real-life engagements such as cooking or gardening, group experiences such as shared reading, music and movement, conversation, reflection and planning, computers, singing, movement, music, special days, painting, collage, construction, block play, reading, stories, language activities, puzzles, clay and dough, sand and water play, drawing, writing, board games, dance games, ball skills, bicycle safety, dramatic play, sliding, swinging, climbing and skipping.

At Avenues Early Learning Centre Murarrie, the educators place a strong emphasis on creating a warm, homely environment for the children and families and believe that a rich learning environment can only be achieved through links with both families and the wider community. They encourage family involvement along with park excursions for Kindergarten children.
The educators work with a commitment to quality early childhood education, and together with the Early Childhood Teachers and Educational leaders work collaboratively to create rich and meaningful educational experiences based on the Early Years Learning Framework and the centre philosophy.
The educators seek to make the centre feel like an extension of the children’s homes, with a warm, caring atmosphere where each child and their family feels welcome and secure and where diversity is accepted, recognised and valued. Their aim is to foster within each child an awareness and acceptance of others, developing respect for those who may be different from themselves in terms of lifestyle, abilities and culture. The educators acknowledge that parents are children’s first educators and aim to work collaboratively to develop shared goals and expectations for each child by providing an environment where connecting links with the family and the wider world are affirmed and extended.
Underpinning the learning experiences within the centre is the fundamental belief that each child is unique, bringing to the learning environment an exclusive set of capabilities and pre-dispositions. The environment will allow children to become competent and confident learners through play that is valued and leads to meaningful learning. This emergent curriculum takes the child's interest and turns it into a learning process, acknowledging the child as a learner, but also encouraging them to share and develop their knowledge with the others in the environment.
As early childhood educators, the team draws upon knowledge of the following documents which are used to inform their philosophy and practices: Early Years Learning Framework, Queensland Kindergarten Learning Guidelines, National Quality Standards and Education and Care Services National Law and Regulations. Avenues Early Learning Centre will provide each child with positive attitudes towards learning, enabling them to become competent and confident learners equipped with skills for life-long learning.
I have been working with Avenues for over 15 years and in this time, I have never worked with such amazing educators. Avenues Murarrie is a unique centre offering a wide natural environment alongside a more purpose built settings. It has been a pleasure managing such high quality programs and watching how our children grow and develop as they participate with excitement. We welcome you to our centre!

Educators encourage social connection during mealtimes, with team members supporting meaningful conversations between children. Mealtimes are an opportunity to model and support a positive disposition towards healthy eating practices and the educators teach the importance of taking care of our bodies and recognising our own hunger levels.
The educators recognise the benefits for children being engaged in experiences that help foster a curiosity towards new foods and textures. Educators regularly incorporate cooking experiences into the educational program. During these experiences, the children are able to experiment with a range of learning concepts such as measurements, turn-taking and understanding the different history and perceptions of different cultures. The centre is committed to good hygiene practices and takes special care when preparing and serving food.
