Londonderry Early Learning Centre

Our centre chef prepares and cooks healthy and nutritious meals daily, catering to the unique dietary requirements of every child. We believe that by encouraging active participation (such as growing their own fruit and vegetables, preparing, and finally cooking!) children learn to appreciate and understand the importance of healthy eating. 

Our centre offers children nutrient-rich, unprocessed, and seasonal whole foods – created to delight the fussiest eaters.

Hi my name is Kim, and I am the Centre Manager here at Londonderry Early Learning Centre. I began my career in early childhood education and care in 2003 and started working at Londonderry Early Learning Centre in 2009. I hold a Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood) and Bachelor of Education (Special Education). I have been the Centre Manager here at Londonderry Early Learning Centre since 2014. I worked here at the centre as an Early Childhood Educator and 2IC since 2009, prior to stepping into the Centre Manager role. 

While completing Year 12, I became interested in early education, and decided to go to university and obtained my Bachelor of Teaching (Early Childhood) in 2003. I then went on to complete a Bachelor of Education (Special Education) in 2005. 

I have worked in several early childhood services since beginning my teaching career in 2003. Through the years I have seen many changes in the early childhood sector, and here at Londonderry Early Learning Centre, we are committed to these changes, and to providing the children and families with the most up to date educational program and practices we can. 

All childcare centres, including our centre, use the foundation of play-based learning to guide our experiences every day. With access to a range of age-appropriate learning resources, trained educators, and new experiences among friends, we set children up to thrive in an environment that is dedicated to learning. Children develop their curiosity, problem-solving, confidence and resilience at our centre, and we carefully plan play-based learning experiences around their interests and learning goals. Over time, you will see your child develop abilities such as language, motor movement, memory, concentration and social relationships all by partaking in these experiences - it's a truly incredible journey to witness!  

The team here at Londonderry Early Learning Centre are a family. Many of us have been here at the centre for several years. We pride ourselves on our home like environment, and the quality of care we provide the children. Continuity of care for the children is of utmost importance, and we love that our team has become an integral part of the local community. As a team, we are very passionate about being active members of the local community. As a result of this passion, we have amazing partnerships with the local public school, the local RFS and community hub. We also have developed partnerships and relationships with local businesses and are very active in supporting all aspects of our community. 

I believe that every child has the right to the best possible start in life. We as educators are here to provide that to them, engaging them in experiences that will not only encourage learning, but also teach them life skills and emotions such as compassion, love and warmth. 

The health and safety of the children, families and educators at our centre is of utmost importance. Our centre is cleaned incidentally throughout the day, and in the evening by the team. We take pride in our centre, and ensure cleaning is at the highest standard. We effectively manage infectious disease and illness. Our families can put their minds at ease knowing that as the notice goes out regarding the infectious disease, our team are deep cleaning the centre ensuring we are doing what we can to reduce the spread.  

I personally believe, you are never going to build a good relationship with the family if you don’t listen. I have found that just giving them the time of day, letting them open up to you, initiates that relationship and builds the trust. We Invite our families into our office for a coffee and a chat, we are always interested in their family, their hobbies etc. We use this information also to bring new families together eg “Oh the Smith Family have dirt bikes too and Johhny and Jack are good friends! I will introduce you to the family.” Our families at the centre are our own families, all the educators go above and beyond to support them with whatever it may be. Our families will always be out first priority.  

Throughout the year, families are invited into our centre for different events.  

For families enrolling at our centre, we invite them to come for a stay and play at least once per week for the weeks leading up to their child starting care. This gives both the child and the family time to bond with the educators and become familiar with surroundings and routines.
