Eastside Uniting Outside School Hours Care Centre overview
Welcome to Eastside Lutheran College!
Eastside Lutheran College is a College of the Lutheran Church of Australia and it operates under the guidance and advice of Lutheran Education VIC, NSW & TAS Region (LEVNT) aby governed by a College Board and the St Peter’s Lutheran Church congregation.
The College Board deals with the governance of the College, including the development of policy, budgets, and stewardship of the College. The Board’s role is to develop a strategic plan to ensure the future development of the College. A framework of policies supports this plan and the future direction of the College. The management, operation and educational leadership of the College are administered by the Principal who is supported by the Business Manager and a leadership Team.
Eastside Lutheran College is set on seven hectares of bushland overlooking Hobart and the Derwent River. Students enjoy abundant room to move, play, explore and learn in an idyllic setting. As one of the few independent schools on the eastern shore, the College draws its student cohort from many areas of south-eastern Tasmania.
The College is the only Lutheran College in Tasmania. It is low-fee paying and inclusive of all. This goes to the heart of our mission to bring affordable Christian education to the southern region of Tasmania.
The College, originally named St Peter’s Lutheran Primary School, was established in 1982 by St Peter’s Lutheran Church Hobart, as part of the Lutheran Church of Australia outreach program to the wider community. Its original location was in the house next to the Lutheran Church in Davey Street, Hobart. In 1985, as enrolments increased, the school moved to its new premises and current site on the Eastern shore and was known as Eastside Christian School.
At the end of 2002, the school moved towards offering a secondary curriculum to Year 10 and in November 2004 changed its name to Eastside Lutheran College. A playgroup and a formal Kindergarten began in 2019 and Year 11 began in 2021 and Year 12 in 2022. In 2012, with the sale of the St Peter’s Church on Davey Street, the congregation made the College campus home for the foreseeable future.
Recent years have seen a period of strong growth for the College with the numbers increasing from 59 students in 2012 to approximately 410 students currently enrolled across Kindergarten to Year 12 in 2022. Inquiries continue to be strong in all year levels with waiting lists to 2024 for some year levels.
The College is a fast-growing, family-focused, co-educational facility that attracts a diverse range of students. The major reasons, in order of surveyed priority, for parents enrolling their children at the College are:
- Small classes with strong pastoral care
- A safe environment with strong behaviour management flexible and diverse programs catering to individual needs
- Low fees
- The Christian philosophy
The College is focused on developing the whole child and educating their hearts, minds, and hands. This is reflected in the overarching principles and values of the College that permeate all that occurs within the College. We have a strong, positive reputation in the wider community and we work in partnership with Independent School’s Tasmania.
