Curriculum and programs
Curriculum and programs
The educators at Goodstart Early Learning follow an evidence-based curriculum that aligns with the Early Years Learning Framework. Informed by world-leading research, practices and techniques, the curriculum encourages the children’s natural curiosity and engages them in their learning journey.
As the children move through the different rooms in the centre, the curriculum evolves with them. The educators set goals for the children and celebrate as they reach their milestones. At every stage, the educators are tailoring the curriculum and goals to each child’s individual needs.
The curriculum involves different types of learning experiences and styles. From child-led learning to sessions guided by educators, the children participate in small and large group sessions as well as individual play. Most importantly, the children learn through play, developing social skills, confidence and independence in addition to more formal academic skills.
Play is the order of the day of Goodstart Early Learning and the programs at the centre are grounded in a play-based approach. The educators embed teaching and learning into play experiences, helping the children to make sense of the world around them. This is how the children learn about how things work and develop important foundational relationships and skills.
The primarily child-directed, play-based curriculum ensures that the children are engaged in their learning. They are encouraged to take the lead, developing their negotiation, risk taking, problem solving and social skills. The educators observe the children and help to challenge them by extending their learning and interests.
The educators recognise that every child is unique and that they bring their own needs, interests and strengths with them each day. The program is designed to be flexible to cater to these differing needs, ensuring every child has the opportunity to thrive at Goodstart.
Parent communication and involvement
Parent communication and involvement
Goodstart Early Learning uses the StoryPark app to connect with parents throughout the day. The educators upload photos and stories to the secure app, which parents can access anytime and anywhere to track their child’s progress.
The approach at the centre is very much based around partnership between families and educators. The educators work with the parents and carers to build strong relationships. They develop trust so the children can feel safe and secure while at the centre. Parents are also encouraged to share their insights and feedback with educators to add depth to the relationship.
The educators observe the children every day and tailor the program around their observations. They share these with parents, so they can feel connected to their child’s progress and also provide feedback that will further enhance their child’s learning experience.
Meet the team
Meet the team
Goodstart Early Learning employs qualified and skilled educators who are dedicated to making a difference to the children in their care. The centre employs people who are empathetic and compassionate, with a nurturing disposition and a passion for care. Working collaboratively as a team, the educators display qualities such as positivity, kindness and, most importantly, a desire to help every child thrive.
The educators hold relevant qualifications, including the Kindergarten and Preschool Program teachers who are university qualified. The educators are lifelong learners, participating in regular and ongoing professional development to enhance their skills. They are encouraged to upskill, learning about the latest research and thinking in the sector. They can then bring this knowledge back to the centre to share with their colleagues for the benefit of the children.
Kashmira Bhathena
Hello, I am Kashmira, the Centre Director here at Goodstart Clarinda.
Hello, Namaste, Wominjeka, Kia ora, Ni hao, Sat sri kal, bonjour, Ciao, Ya sas. My name is Kashmira Naushad Bhathena, born in Mumbai, India. I have completed my Bachelor of Commerce degree from Mumbai University and my post graduate Diploma in early childhood education from University of Auckland.
I was working as preparatory teacher in a state government school for a year before I moved to Auckland, New Zealand in 2004 where I restarted my early childhood journey. In 2013 I moved from New Zealand to Melbourne, Australia. I have over 20 years of experience in the early childhood education. I have been working at Goodstart since 2013.
I believe it takes a village to raise a child, there are various factors from family, childcare setting/school to our local community that influence in shaping the identity of a child. The first 5years are crucial in building the strong foundation for children which will enhance their identity throughout their life. When children are enrolled in our service, we nurture them and enhance and extend their prior knowledge in order to achieve best outcomes for them. I view a child as a capable, competent human being who is learning more than 100 languages of life by being a curious, exploring, in awe of the big wide world, filled with wonderment, discoverer, full of questions and I believe we need to support the 100 languages to encourage their love for lifelong learning. I believe learning doesn’t only occur within the walls of our service but our outdoor environment and the wider community play an important role to enhance children’s as valued members of our community.
Goodstart is the largest not for profit organisation in our early childhood sector and I believe all decision making that takes place is for the betterment of our community of learners. They are advocating on behalf of the various stakeholders with the government which will help with achieving best outcomes for the community.
I believe in building strong trusting and respectful relationship with our children and families to help understand their needs, interest, goals, and aspiration which will help us t extend learning and development of our children. I always want to support families with suggestions, professional development, links with other community partners to overcome various parenting challenges they might come across.
I look forward to welcoming you and your family to Goodstart Clarinda. We warmly welcome new families, so please stop by! We would love to explore how we can support you and your child on their pathway to lifelong learning.
Please feel free to reach out with any questions, or better yet, to see firsthand the wonderful environment we've created for our children. Together, we can make these early years enriching and memorable.
Warm regards,
Kashmira Bhathena

We are so grateful to have our children attend Goodstart Clarinda. All childcare staff are very attentive to the needs of our daughters. In more recent times, we have had to make a lot of adjustments to the days our daughters attend childcare and the management and administration team have been very responsive and helpful throughout this process. The kindergarten staff have been very supportive in helping my daughter feel comfortable in her room. Our younger daughter, who is in the toddler room, happily waves goodbye to mum/dad each morning at drop off, with a smile on her face…that to me, says it all! Thank you Goodstart Clarinda! You are a wonderful team! Read more

Everything from the beginning of the year has been so easy with their help. We transitioned our 4 yr old for her last year of kinder and the educators are exceptional and have done amazing things to help her make strong connections and find her place. She has never come so far, so quickly. Excellent communication between all educators and parents. Amazing facilities and connections with community around them. Thank you Goodstart Clarinda, we wish we had found you sooner. Read more
