My son started when he was just shy of 2 years old, attending two days a week, and it’s been such a positive journey. I was initially drawn to the calm atmosphere and the nurturing 'aunties,' which made me feel much more at ease about leaving him in care. The director Kelleye is also wonderful, and I've seen the owner visit from Perth a couple of times now so it's quite hands on from the top down as well. Although my son is ethnically half-Chinese, he’s third-generation, and neither my husband nor I speak the language. I wanted him to have the opportunity to learn Mandarin, but even if he didn’t become fluent, I knew that exposure to the culture would be valuable. To my surprise, at just 27 months, he can now confidently count from 1 to 10 in both English and Mandarin—something he picked up entirely at daycare! Hearing him say numbers in Mandarin at home was such an unexpected and exciting moment for us. The centre itself is fantastic—great staff-to-child ratios, very clean, and I love that my son hasn’t been constantly sick, which was a big concern for me when starting daycare. It did take him a little while to settle in, but that was completely expected, and now he genuinely loves going. The only minor downside is the pickup area, which can be expected of the city. I haven’t had any major issues, but I’m definitely grateful for my reverse camera! Overall, I’d absolutely recommend Bilingual by 5 to any parent, even if you don’t speak Chinese at home.
