Sutherland Shire Council’s Family Day Care Educators offer children very warm and nurturing environments, with a focus on learning through play.
Our qualified Educators provide education and care for up to four children under school age in the Educator’s home. The children develop a close connection with their Educator and strong friendships with other children in care.
Parents tell us what they value most is the consistency in connecting with and knowing one Educator very well, the extensive information they receive about their child's day in care, and the preparation that goes into each day specifically for their child's needs and milestones.
Our team is formally trained and importantly, are passionate about the social, emotional and academic growth of children.
Family Day Care’s small group environment ensures every child receives a tailored educational program to meet their developmental needs and milestones. It’s a level of personalised service unique to the Family Day Care environment.
Our program has been operating for 40 years, and every year hundreds of local children enjoy its many benefits. Our scheme is strong and successful, with Educators who are dedicated and passionate.
We recruit our Educators carefully, and we only accept the best. Many have been with us for a long time, and we know them well. They’re warm and caring individuals who are devoted to their profession. They are also an integral part of the local childcare landscape, providing an outstanding service to families throughout the Sutherland Shire, Kyle Bay and Helensburgh.
Safety and full industry compliance are non-negotiable at Council. We invest heavily to ensure every Family Day Care service is safe, fully compliant and operating to a high standard. We employ a dedicated Safety and Compliance team to monitor all of Council’s childcare sites, including every Family Day Care location. Our team is on the road daily, conducting many types of checks and visits - spot checks, compliance visits, mentoring and educational programming visits. This ensures our Educators are complying with National Law and Regulations.
Our Family Day Care curriculum promotes the development of language and literacy, numeracy, social and emotional skills, physical development and cognitive growth. Many parents want to see their child write their name and hear them count. Our curriculum provides children with the platform to develop these types of skills, along with many others.
Education, incorporating academic and life skills, occurs from the moment a child walks through our Family Day Care doors. Infants, toddlers and preschoolers experience age appropriate learning on a daily basis. This learning is embedded in a holistic program encompassing:
- language and literacy
- mathematics and engineering
- science and technology
- arts and crafts
- sustainability education
- music and dance
- physical activity to promote gross and fine motor skills
- cultural experiences
- sensory experiences
- free creative play
- community excursions and larger group-based opportunities
